Anti-cyclones

Between 2001-9 motorists killed 3,495 pedestrians and cyclists killed 18. Despite these facts newspapers and politicians seem to be pursuing a hate campaign against cyclists whilst ignoring the real killers on the road - cars and the motorists who drive them.

The reason seems to be jealousy. No one sitting in a luxury tin box in a traffic jam likes to see a bicycle cruising past getting somewhere faster. I drive I know that cyclists can be irritating: weaving around or slowing down traffic.

But I also cycle and if you have ever cycled you will know that many motorists drive like they want to kill you: cutting you up, forcing you into the gutter or just plainly not paying any attention to the road. The same motorists express disgust when they see cyclists using the pavements. If cycling on the roads were safe few cyclists would choose to use the pavement.

Until Britain embraces cycling cyclists will continue to be subject to criticism which the figures do not justify.
